Because this is a fashion blog and not a blog about my health, I'm not going to get into every aspect of this topic. However, a lot of the effects of these issues can be seen on my blog, though not in a major way, and so I wanted to really explain those. I did that a bit on my old blog, but I didn't have one place where everything was summarized, and so I wanted to have that here. Wanna talk about this? Let's talk! But please understand that no negativity on this issue will be tolerated. I have feelings too ;). But here we go:
I don't wear any makeup, perfume, metal, the only hair product I use is shampoo, and I wear tennis shoes every single day.
What? When I list it like that, it sounds like I'm part of some crazy cult or something, but it's for medical reasons. I figured I'd divide up the issues a little bit, so here they are. This is what the above list means:
Makeup, perfume, hair products, etc.
Sometimes have allergic reactions to every day chemicals, which can be found in...makeup, perfume (especially), and things like hairspray. Because of this, you'll probably never see me wear makeup or hairspray (I haven't since the fall of my high school freshman year!).
Metal
For my whole life, I've always been allergic to metal. When I was a baby, I couldn't wear those cute little onesies because the snaps would give me a rash! People often think that since I'm allergic to metal, I can't touch metal things like pans or stair railings, but I can! I just have a problem when I wear metal. In terms of this blog, that means I don't wear any metal jewelry (gold or silver--any kind is bad) and I don't wear dresses, skirts, or jackets with zippers. I take out the zipper in jeans and replace the snap with a button, so don't be confused if you see me wear jeans.
Tennis shoes
In eighth grade, I got a dance injury that meant I could only wear tennis shoes because my feet needed the support. What that means for the blog is you'll probably notice that I don't own many pairs of shoes. It's just not practical if I can't wear them! You might even see me wearing tennis shoes here sometimes because it can be unavoidable. As of now, I've decided to wear dresses and skirts in public, even though I have to wear tennis shoes with them, and so though I don't always wear Nikes in my photos here, I am in real life.
Do you have any of the same challenges? I'd love to hear from you! If you've read all of this, I'm seriously impressed, and thank you.
