Oversized Cardigan

Okay, so it's been forever since I posted an outfit I've actually worn. But this was a perfect comfy, gray Monday outfit. It was sort of uncharacteristically simple and monochromatic, actually. But none of the scarves or necklaces I tried out with this outfit felt right so I just left it as is. Honestly, I was totally on the fence about this oversized cardigan at first, but I really loved how comfy it all was and how well I felt it fit together. The other day, my brother told me that even when I go away to college, I'll still get his old clothes he grows out of (I can't believe he's three years younger) and he'll just mail them to me. While this cardigan isn't mine yet, I'm definitely looking forward to the day that it is.

Inspiration // Foundations

You guys, it's been so long since I posted! I'm so sorry! It's been a crazy last month or so, but I have a new post! Since the summer, I've been keeping a file on my computer called "Learn From Her" in addition to various style boards on Pinterest. I've been saving a lot of pictures of outfits like these that I love on these girls, but personally, I mostly see them as foundations. With all of these outfits, I'm just dying to add a patterned, colored top under Chloe Moretz' jacket and colored scarf to everyone else's. I love the idea of basic simple outfits, but in reality, they're just foundations for me or else they don't feel like my style. Even so, I'm so inspired to play around with basic outfits like these and add my own touches.

Leaves and Things

Yesterday, Blythe came over and brought her amazing camera. We wanted to take advantage of the light and take fall photos, but didn't focus on outfits this time. We found a few incredible pockets of light and took as much advantage of them as we could before the battery ran out. Most of these are barely edited, and I'm so in love with the colors and light that we managed to capture! What do you think about these?

Right now, we have this whole week off for Thanksgiving Break, and it's been absolutely wonderful. I saw Skyfall with a group of friends on Saturday and totally loved it. I haven't really been a big fan of James Bond movies in the past, but my family and I already have made plans to go see it this week and I'm looking forward to watching it again. And hanging out with Madison and our friend Isaac and watching (not so) scary TV episodes has all been a great start to this break. While I have a lot of homework to do as well, it's been so nice to have this time to relax a bit.

Have a happy Thanksgiving! Hopefully I'll have a post next week with great Black Friday finds!

Rust

Jacket: Forever 21/ Shoes: UO/ Skirt: Target/ Top: Aeropostale (forever ago)

This sweater is one that I've had since about sixth or seventh grade but I usually wear it on the weekends at home with seats or pajama pants. I like how it looks with skinny jeans, too, but for some reason, I've never paired it with a dress or skirt until now. I was really surprised by how well tucking it in worked and so I can definitely see this outfit on my repeat list. While I was putting it together and looking in the mirror, I was pretty apprehensive about all these colors together, but looking at these pictures, I really like them. I think rust is a really good staple color that can balance any others out, so I'm glad I picked this jacket up last year.

Fall Woods

Last weekend (the day before I got sick, actually), I went over to a friend's house and we decided to do a quick little photoshoot. She should look a little familiar since she's been included and mentioned in many posts before! But anyway, her dog, Seamus, and cat, Johnny, had to come along too, of course. They're seriously the cutest. They bounced around a lot and Seamus was especially great for grasshopper catching and eating. Madison took most of these pictures and I really love how they capture that summer-to-fall transition time we're experiencing right now. I love doing these little photoshoots with friends because of how much fun they are, but it's also nice to put together something for this blog with another person and get something different from what I usually post!

Black, Red, and Yellow

In Motion: school outfit, fall outfit, fall school outfit  In Motion: school outfit, fall outfit, fall school outfit In Motion: school outfit, fall outfit, fall school outfit
Top: Gap/ Skirt: Target/ Cardigan: Delia's/ Shoes: Toms

I took these pictures last Friday while waiting for an appointment and actually ended up spending an hour outside chasing the pretty lighting. I even made a little video, which you guys will get to see tomorrow! Anyway, I've heard before that a good trick for mixing patterns is to have one piece with a big pattern and another one with a small pattern. I actually really like two small patterns together, as well! I think they really balance each other out and from far away, both pieces are practically solids. I think keeping everything else really simple is crucial, though, if you have two small patterns in an outfit, which is why I went with the basic black cardigan and solid Toms.

At the moment, though, the only pattern mixing I'm doing is with my pajamas, since I suddenly got quite sick Sunday evening. I'm a little worried about the amount of work awaiting me when I try to catch up from missing school, but I'm so exhausted that I just can't think about it too much. It'll all get done! All I'm hoping for now is a good IB TOK IA presentation next week (that was a lot of acronyms haha! Our Theory of Knowledge big presentation project is in a couple of days. Eeek!) and being well enough to go to Homecoming this weekend (my last one!). So all I need to do now is get better! As soon as possible, which means an early bed time tonight!

Blues

In Motion: school outfit, fall school outfit, fall outfit, borrowing men's clothes In Motion: school outfit, fall school outfit, fall outfit, borrowing men's clothes
Sweater: Gap (brother's)/ Jeans: Old Navy/ Shoes: Toms/ Bag: Gift/ Scarf: Gift

I went a little crazy with the amount of blue in this outfit, but oh well. Hopefully my scarf and shoes balance everything out. I've been wanting to get a thin sweater like this for a long time, but then I realized my brother has this one so I just figured I'd borrow it instead. Although that turned into an interesting conversation. When I asked if I could borrow it, he said only if I paid him! He said I could wear it if I paid him ten cents every time. But I mean...who has dimes? So he lowered it to a nickel but switched it back when I told him I didn't have any nickels either. He threatened to raise it even more so I was forced to agree. And now I owe him ten cents. Which he will...probably....maybe get someday. Or maybe I'll just have to wear this sweater some more so I can give him a dollar I actually have on hand. ;)
