Summer Hairstyle Favorites

3 Summer Hairstyle Favorites
As someone who's lived in the South her whole life, I like to think I know a little bit about surviving harsh summers. As it seems like it's abnormally hot everywhere this year, I thought I'd share my favorite hairstyles for those unbelievable days. Though I normally wear my hair down, when I don't need any extra heat, these are the three hairstyles I usually go for:

Fishtail Braid
I love that this braid is a little different. It's bit more special, gets the job done, and only takes a little longer than a regular braid does. It was a little hard to learn how to do this at first, and I still haven't mastered the French version of the fishtail braid. After a little bit of practice (I taught myself using a YouTube video and an old doll), I was able to do it on my own hair without a problem. I can't find the video I originally used to learn, but this one by Lauren Conrad and The Beauty Department is pretty good. I'd like to add, though, that I don't think having a pony tail and then cutting the elastic is necessary. Also, they didn't mention that it's important to use pieces from the outer sides of the two halves, but you can see that's what Lauren does. If you're just learning how to do a fishtail braid, I'd highly recommend starting out on someone else or a doll. It's so much easier to figure out what you're actually doing where you can see it before trying to learn something while also not being able to see. If you have layers like I do, your fishtail braid will probably look a little messy, but I kind of like that!

Regular and French Braid
This hairstyle is my definite go-to when I'm feeling up to doing more than just a ponytail. Both the braid and French braid are super easy, quick, and you can do a hundred variations of them. I'll be doing another post on ways to incorporate braids into buns and ponytails to make them more interesting, so check back for that on Thursday!

French Braid Bun (or Ponytail)
This style is one I accidentily discovered a few years ago while at camp, and it's the perfect hairstyle for days when you don't have time to shower. It takes a little longer than a regular braid, but not as long as a fishtail braid, and I think it's a little fun and special. To make the bun, you can use bobby pins, but I don't. Mostly because I can't wear metal, but even if I could, I wouldn't because they're uncomfortable, especially in the
summer (I used to be able to wear bobby pins back when I was a dancer many years ago).

And there you have it! I hope these hairstyles will help when you don't want to wear a ponytail or basic bun, but it's just too hot to leave your hair down. And of course, you can always add headbands or pretty clips!

Are there any other hairstyles that you like to do in the summer? I also like to use these different tricks to make basic ponytails and buns more interesting.
